About the tour.
We offer this only as an extention to a day tour.
This allow us to focus on teaching everyone how to compose and make a beautiful photograph of these elusive lights.
We have an extended knowledge in capturing the northern lights and how to overcome technical difficulties many people face when photographing the night sky, and we are happy to share our knowledge with you so you can bring home beautiful images from our hunt.
Disclaimer:
The northern lights are a natural phenomenon and we monitor the aurora forecast and base our decision to go on them.
We do not go northern light hunting unless we think there is a very good chance of seeing them, if we go and the lights do not appear there is no refund and we do not offer to go another night.
Highlights
Below are some of the attractions we might visit on this tour, amongst many other fascinating locations.
See gallery at the bottom of this page.
Gallery with nothern light images
Frozen pond
A little bit of moonlight isn't all that bad as it helps with luminating the foreground.
Tip: When we have moon light we need stonger solar winds for the human eye to see the lights
but the camera will easlily pick them up.
Black Church
It was a cold but very productive night. This was the third location we took our workshop to photograph
the lights before the expected clouds rolled in.
Reflection
Foreground - foreground - foreground, I can't stress this enough, it's all about the foreground.
Even better find a reflecting pond to double the effect of the lights.
Guiding light
I find it important to have something that us humans can relate to when shooting the northern lights.
Often the sky is just filled with dancing aurora and it's tempting to just point you camer straight up but having
an element such as a person or a building helps tie everything together.

Northern Lights Tour
Northern Lights Tour
- Only available as an extention to day tours -
Northern Lights (Aurora Borealis) are quite an unpredictable phenomenon, and even with a good aurora forecast, the cloud cover can be a factor. Usually, booking a Northern Lights tour with a long notice, will not be considered to be a good idea. On the other hand, having a flexible schedule increases the chance of seeing the lights immensely.
Thor Photography offers evening tours for aurora hunting, when the conditions are right. We will drive out of the city to a location free from light pollution, where we will hunt for the aurora. The tour can last for up to 5 hours and of course if there is a need for any assistance in terms of photographing the lights, we're glad to help out.
